mERMAID iNVITATIONS

All the pretty maids in a row!

All the pretty maids in a row!

I finished them yesterday morning while the kids were getting ready for school – I had to let the glitter glue dry from the night before. Ahhh… how I love glitter glue! So Here are the marvelous mermaid invitations. Oh! I hand drew the mermaids then scanned them onto the computer – but the scan was really bad. Being the impatient person I am, I didn’t feel like scanning them again, I just wanted to color them, but in doing so I didn’t have the black & white image to scan again. I guess I’ll just have to draw more. I did find, however, that if you cut them out and color them the flaws aren’t quite as noticeable. If enough people would like the flawed file I can upload it here.

So, enjoy!

Today we all played hooky from church. I think I probably should feel guilty, but, I don’t. It’s been a really nice, peaceful day. The kids played with the neighbor-friends, poor Z-Z over did it this last week and she wasn’t feeling well today. She had volleyball tryouts, her first school dance, a swimming party, she stayed the night with Kate and homework kicked into its normal routine. It’s work being a kid! So, we let her sleep today;hopefully tomorrow she’ll be her usual self.

There are a few things around the corner in September: our DIL has her birthday, Cookie’s party and, the most unbelievable of it all: we celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. What’s up with that? I have no idea where all that time went; it is crazy! Our legal – we went to the Justice of the Peace – wedding is in September; but we had a friends-and-family ceremony in October of the same year – we just neglected to let our families know until our 10th anniversary. At first it was a big deal to keep it quiet, but then we kinda forgot about it. Hee! Hee!

I’ve also volunteered to help at church in the 2nd-5th graders class. I feel rather frustrated because, after several attempts, this is the “only” ministry that needs help.  Having devoted 7 years to vocational ministry as the director of Early Childhood Ministries in a small mega-church while simultaneously directing their mid-week children’s discipleship group for 2 year -olds through 6th graders for 2 years, I have not felt drawn to serve within any children’s ministries. When I left the big church it was for health reasons and while now, 5 years later, I am beginningto see some positive progress, I still feel that my energy, endurance, strength etc. are only 30% of what they were before becoming ill. And I still struggle with pain some days that’s intense enough that I don’t want to even breath- but those are coming less frequently. Ministry to children – ministry done with excellence – is intense. They need attention, patience, kindness – soooo many things, I don’t know that I want to give all of those resources away to other people’s children when I want to be able to give that or better to my own children.

I guess I’m going to need to make even more effort to trust that God needs me to be there. I know He does because I can’t tell you how heartbreaking it is to see people charged with teaching kids about God andHis love who are behaving like they are there just to babysit! It makes me angry. I have seen God do outrageously good things through willing hearts.  But, even though I feel myself inwardly groan over it, I’m convinced that God is calling me to serve in children’s ministry. I want to be obedient, and obedience doesn’t cost anything if I’m only choosing to do things I enjoy doing! It’s just really hard when I know with the full force of my heart where I want to serve and how the Holy Spirit has comforted me through that ministry/service. In the Christian life I’m told self-sacrifice – being selfless – is a really good thing…

So, I’m going to keep praying for God to equip me, and to change my heart and attitude. Mostly because I am grieved to think the pain I could have been spared as a child, teen and young adult if someone had been loving and brave enough to step into my life and show me who Christ is.  At the very least it could have given me tools to make better choices.

I’ve also added 3 new GSD files to download…

I made the cutest card using the shell card base; I was going to post it now, but my hubby went to a ball game and took the camera with him! I am way too much of a techno-goober to know how to get a picture from my phone to my computer. I guess I could email it from one to the other… but, it’s time to get the chillens into bed so I’ll just post it later this week! I haven’t cut the other 2 sets yet so when you do, I would LOVE a photo of what you made. Thanks… Have a great one!

Happy cutting!

REMEMBER: PLEASE DON’T CREDIT AS YOUR OWN, PLEASE LINK TO MY BLOG TO PASS THE FILES ON.

fREE GSD fILE

I love my Quickutz Silhouette digital cutter. It is so amazing! My hubby thinks I’m weird because when I’m ready to cut I leave the top open so that I can watch it cutting, it’s really cool. My daughter says that it sounds like it’s singing because of the sounds it makes while it cuts, we always get a good giggle listening to it hum along.

Today I am posting a free GSD file for anyone who would like it. I ask that you PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT and give “thecraftymama.wordpress.com” credit or post a link to my blog. It is a file for  2 dutch girls holding the ends of a jump rope and one jumping. The silhouette turns out cute and I’ve included the pieces for more detail if you’d like. They are from a font called “Dutchmen,” downloaded free from the internet.  When you make something with them, please consider sending me a picture of what you’ve made. Thanks!

Have fun cutting away!
